Nordic BioPower in brief
Nordic BioPower is a Swedish energy company driving the transition to renewable, carbon-negative energy across the Nordic region.
Who we are
Nordic BioPower develops and runs renewable energy and biochar plants across the Nordic region. We operate practical, scalable facilities that make use of local forest and agricultural residues, producing energy and biochar that help replace fossil fuels and remove carbon from the atmosphere.
We are part of Averra Group AB, a Swedish industrial group focused on sustainable real estate and renewable energy infrastructure. Together, we combine long-term industrial experience with an ambition to accelerate the shift to carbon-negative energy.
Our operations
Davidstad, Finland – Pellet, wood chip and biochar production
A cornerstone of Nordic renewable energy
Nordic BioPower currently operates one production facility in Davidstad, Finland, where we manufacture high-quality wood pellets and wood chips for renewable heating. The site has become a cornerstone of our Nordic operations, supporting local forestry and providing sustainable fuel to industrial, municipal and private customers.
Revitalised and expanded for the future
The facility was acquired in 2024 from LPT Oy, a former wood processing and pellet plant in the region. Following the acquisition, the site underwent a full revitalisation, including modernisation of equipment, restoration of the dryer, and upgrades to the processing and logistics systems. Production of pellets and wood chips resumed under the SISU Energy brand, using locally sourced forestry and sawmill residues.
Operating with near-zero emissions, the Davidstad facility transforms wood by-products into clean, carbon-neutral energy that replaces fossil fuels while strengthening local employment and regional energy independence.

New biochar production under way
To broaden the renewable product portfolio, a biochar production line is now being commissioned at the site, with operations scheduled to begin in the first half of 2026. Once operational, the plant will produce around 7,000 tonnes of biochar per year, further enhancing the circular use of biomass and contributing to long-term carbon removal.
Circular energy in practice
By integrating pellet, wood chip and biochar production, the Davidstad facility demonstrates Nordic BioPower’s circular energy model in practice. Excess heat from the biochar process is reused to dry raw materials for pellets, reducing total energy consumption by 10–15% per tonne produced pellets and creating strong operational synergies through shared infrastructure and workforce.
SISU Energy – our local brand
SISU Energy is a registered trademark owned by Nordic BioPower. The end products are marketed under the SISU Energy brand across Europe, except in Finland, where the brand SISU Pellets is used. Through SISU Energy, Nordic BioPower supplies both private and industrial customers with locally produced, carbon-smart pellets that reduce transport emissions and promote regional energy security.
As part of our ongoing growth, Nordic BioPower will launch the SISU brand and webshops for pellets, wood chips, and biochar in Sweden in the first quarter of 2026, making renewable energy products easily accessible to a broader customer base.
Höganäs, Sweden – Biochar production
Nordic BioPower’s Höganäs facility is a fully equipped, existing biochar production site that will restart operations in the first quarter of 2026. By leveraging the site’s established infrastructure and permits, Nordic BioPower can bring large-scale, commercially and technically verified biochar production online within a short timeframe, strengthening the company’s circular, renewable energy platform.
Commissioning is planned following completion of the acquisition and regulatory approvals, with operations scheduled to begin in Q1 2026. At full capacity, the facility will produce 5,000–8,000 tonnes of biochar per year, equivalent to 20–25 GWh of energy output.
