Averra Group AB acquires Nordic BioPower AB, strengthening its positioning in renewable and carbon-negative energy

12 May 2025, 08:00
Averra Group AB (“Averra”), an industrial investment company focused on renewable energy, carbon-negative solutions, and circular resource use, has acquired 95 percent of the shares in Nordic BioPower AB (NBP).

The acquisition, completed in May 2025 as part of Averra’s broader renewable-energy strategy, including the integration of SISU Energy AB, creates a strong platform for Averra’s continued expansion in sustainable energy and bio-based materials across Northern Europe.

The transaction includes:

  • The Davidstad facility in Finland, producing high-quality wood pellets and wood chips.
  • The assets of the former Puustako Oy biochar plant in Nurmes, which are now being commissioned as part of NBP’s operations.

Averra has also committed to funding Nordic BioPower’s future growth, providing the financial capacity to expand production, develop new facilities, and advance the group’s biochar and renewable energy initiatives.

“This acquisition secures both the financial foundation and strategic direction needed to accelerate Nordic BioPower’s expansion,” said Helén Olausson, CEO of Nordic BioPower. “Together with Averra, we are building a scalable model for decarbonising energy and industrial production across Northern Europe.”

Under Averra’s ownership, Nordic BioPower AB continues as a core subsidiary focused on biochar, pellets, and wood-chip production, marketed under the SISU Energy and SISU Pellets brands throughout Europe.
