Nordic Bio Power AB starts production at Höganäs facility
Nordic Bio Power AB (NBP) announces that the company’s facility in Höganäs has today, on 11 May 2026, successfully been brought back into operation and that biochar production has commenced.
The commissioning marks an important milestone in NBP’s development. It is the first time the facility has been producing since June 2025, when operations were last active under previous ownership. The restart under NBP’s ownership means that the facility is now being integrated into the company’s platform and further developed in line with the Group’s strategy.
Strategic expansion within biochar
The Höganäs facility is designed for an annual production capacity of approximately 5,000 tonnes of biochar. Through this establishment, NBP broadens its operations within sustainable energy solutions and circular material flows.
Biochar represents a growing segment with applications in:
- Carbon sequestration and climate compensation
- Soil improvement within agriculture and forestry
- Industrial applications and material substitution
By utilizing residual biomass streams, production in Höganäs contributes to increased resource efficiency and reduced net emissions.
Focus on stable operations and commercialization
The initial commissioning has been completed according to plan. Going forward, the focus will be on:
- Optimizing production capacity and yield
- Ensuring stable and cost-efficient operations
- Establishing commercial deliveries and customer relationships within the biochar segment
Comment from the Board
"The launch of biochar production in Höganäs is an important milestone for Nordic Bio Power. The restart of the facility creates a platform for both industrial development and a strengthened offering within carbon sinks and circular energy solutions," says Helen Jegerstedt, Board representative of Nordic Bio Power AB.
